Ableton guitar tones.

Seed to Stage has a great video on getting different guitar tones using Ableton. For practice, I’m trying to recreate and save some of them on my device. It’s a good idea to maintain a repo of audio effect racks (one for each tone) for future use.

I particularly liked hearing him talk about the “Clean” setting and its ability to provide greater tone control: how picking hard introduces more heaviness (read: distortion) into the mix, and picking soft yields a pleasant bright tone. He also does a great job of connecting sounds from these tones to popular songs.

Do check out the section “Roll your own guitar rack” (29:05), specially the part around cabinet tuning. Once you finally create a tone that you like, don’t forget to use the “Yellow Ledbetter” test for vetting guitar tones.
