This is a list of guitar pieces that I’m currently practicing, have practiced in the past, or would like to practice in the future.

Whenever I pick up my guitar, I have difficulty choosing a song. Also, since I’ve been playing for so long, keeping track of what I learned has become hard. I keep forgetting what I know, and end up noodling with my instrument, which isn’t contributing to my learning. By writing about it, I’m hoping to force myself out of this circular trap.

Present

  1. Time After Time by Eva Cassidy — My friend Supriya introduced me to the song years ago. It’s a great acoustic-only cover, ideal for female-vocal gigs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hzsj60THn40
  2. Autumn leaves — This is a jazz standard. Great sounding, and excellent study material. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pr7qWXClmpk

Past

  1. Yesterday by The Beatles — I remember really liking the chord change in “Oh I believe… in yes-terd-day.”
  2. Blackbird by The Beatles — I love the melody for Blackbird, and its really fun to play.
  3. Cherry wine by Hozier — Its a beautiful sounding piece for fingerstyle playing.
  4. More than words by Extreme — This has been a go-to gig song for me and my sister Medha.
  5. One last breath by Creed — I learned this in high school, and forgot it. It was challenging to me at the time.

Future

  1. Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam— This is a great song for guitar tone testing.
  2. No Diggity by Blackstreet — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrHGN-dTnu
  3. Song for George by Eric Johnson — https://youtu.be/6BcW-tV_W7c

Do you have a song you love playing? I’d love to hear about it. Let me know my adding a comment below.
